“You have Parkinson’s Disease”

Over 1 million Americans have heard their doctor say those 4 words. It's been described as “an atomic event”, a moment where your life changes and nothing going forward will ever be the same. Some people experience denial, others search the internet for answers, while many fear for the burden they will cause their loved ones as their disease progresses. Parkinson’s Disease is the second most common neurologic disorder and accounts for a $52 billion a year economic burden to the United States.

Parkinson’s Disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disease that can cause motor symptoms such as tremor, stiffness, abnormal movements, and problems with walking, as well as depression, difficulty sleeping, and other non-motor symptoms. Although there is currently no cure for Parkinson's Disease, high intensity exercise, proper nutrition, stress management, and other small lifestyle changes have been found to significantly improve symptoms and may delay disease progression.

Parkinson's Pointe is a place for people to meet their community, engage in high quality programs, and learn strategies to live well, despite their diagnosis. Parkinson’s Pointe is a 501(c)(3) organization that provides programs that reverse symptoms and delay the progression of Parkinson's Disease. Community based classes include various forms of exercise, movement, music, creativity, nutrition and more, all in one location.

Your contribution changes the lives of people with Parkinson's Disease. Thank you!
